India gorges on discounted Russian crude, enjoys fuel export bonus
Refinitiv Oil Research estimates that India will import 1.94 million barrels per day (bpd) from Russia in April, while commodity analysts Kpler are more bullish, forecasting arrivals of 2.39 million bpd. India's total imports from the Middle East are estimated by Refinitiv at 1.92 million bpd in April, meaning that for the first time arrivals from Russia will exceed those from all Middle East producers combined. Iraq remains India's top supplier from the Middle East, with April arrivals estimated at 840,000 bpd, with Saudi Arabia in second place at 640,000 bpd.

Saudi Arabia Conducts First Civilian Evacuation From Sudan, Includes Indian Nationals
In the first reported civilian rescue, a statement from the Saudi Arabian foreign ministry on Saturday night stated that naval forces carried out the evacuation of Saudi citizens, as well as nationals from “brotherly and friendly countries, including diplomats and international officials”. “The number of citizens who were evacuated reached 91 citizens, while the number of people who were evacuated from brotherly and friendly countries reached approximately 66, representing the following nationalities (Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia, Pakistan, India, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Canada, and Burkina Faso),” said the statement.

Saudi Arabia plans world’s richest T20 cricket tournament, Indian players eyed
Speaking to Arab News last month Prince Saud bin Mishal al-Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Cricket Board, said the Kingdom is planning multiple leagues. He said: “There will be leagues on all levels, not just one league. We’ve developed great relationships with the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council, as well as some successful international cricket boards and big cricketers globally. “And then we hired experts to help us develop a model of a league. Of course, a lot of infrastructure and development are required, but we’ll announce when it’s time.” The presence of Indian players in a possible T20 league would virtually guarantee huge audiences and generate new interest in the sport.

India’s population to overtake China by mid-2023, UN estimates
India is poised to overtake China as the world's most populous nation, with almost 3 million more people than its neighbour by the middle of this year, data released on Wednesday by the United Nations showed. India's population by mid-year is estimated at 1.4286 billion, against 1.4257 billion for China - 2.9 million fewer - in the United Nations Population Fund's (UNFPA) "State of World Population Report" for this year.

Kuwait deports 9,000 expats in three months: India tops list of deportees
Kuwait has deported over 9,000 expats in the first quarter of 2023, according to reports by local media. The individuals were involved in criminal and misdemeanour cases. From the 9,000 deportees, over 4,000 were female. Indian nationals topped the list of deportees followed by Filipinos, Sri Lankans and Egyptians. According to reports, over 700 men and women have currently been placed in deportation centres and will be deported within 10 days.

Israel’s El Al to resume India flights using Saudi corridor
El Al Israel Airlines (ELAL.TA) said on Thursday it would resume flights to India in October after a three-year absence, citing shorter flight times due to the ability to fly over Saudi Arabia and Oman. Israel's flag carrier will operate four weekly flights to Mumbai from Tel Aviv using Boeing 737 aircraft, with the route expected to take 5.5 hours, down from 7.45 hours previously. It will also fly twice weekly to New Delhi using larger Boeing 777 or 787 planes. The flight time on that route will fall to 6.5 hours from 9, El Al said.
