  • India has found a major deposit of lithium, suddenly making it a major player in batteries and EVs

    The Indian government announced on Thursday, Feb. 10 that 5.9 million tons of lithium, a crucial mineral for the manufacturing of electric vehicles and solar panels, had been discovered in the provinces of Jammu and Kashmir.

    It was the first major discovery of lithium in India, with the only other reserves being a small deposit of 1600 tons discovered in Karnataka two years ago. Up to this point, the country had depended on Australia, Chile, and Argentina for any imports of lithium needed for its manufacturing sector.

There was a five-fold increase in the figure as in 2021 and 2020 the numbers were 32,845 and 44,316 respectively.

    Saudi tourism authorities and stakeholders showcased on Thursday the Kingdom’s travel potential at India’s biggest industry exhibition in their ongoing roadshow to draw visitors from the South Asian country. Since the beginning of February, the Saudi Tourism Authority has been participating in a series of travel and trade events across India, including the One World Travel Market in Mumbai and the South Asian Travel and Tourism Exchange, which runs in Noida in the Indian capital region from Feb. 9 through Feb. 11.

    Islamic State militants have threatened to target Chinese, Indian, and Iranian embassies in Afghanistan in an effort to isolate the Taliban from a handful of countries it counts as diplomatic allies. The local affiliate of the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, is attempting to “undermine the relationship between the Taliban and member states in the region,” according to United Nations report on the group’s activities. The report is expected to be discussed later Thursday at United Nations Security Council in New York.

  • Saudi Arabia tops India as world’s fastest growing major economy

    Saudi Arabia has overtaken India as the fastest growing major economy in the world, with it’s non-oil sector growing at the fastest rate in more than one year. The kingdom’s non-oil economy grew an annual 6.2 percent during the fourth quarter of last year, the highest level since the third quarter of 2021, according to the General Authority for Statistics. The oil economy rose 6.1 percent, data released on Tuesday showed.
