    The Saudi Football Association launched on Thursday the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Premier League, with the participation of 8 teams. The teams participating are Al-Nasr (previously the Kingdom’s women’s team), Al-Hilal (previously Al-Tahadi women’s team), Al-Yamama, Nessor Jeddah, Shoalat Al-Shargia, Al-Aseffa, Sama w Maras. The new season will start on October 13, on a home-and-away basis, with a total of 56 matches.

    Saudi Arabia has partnered with American tech firm Google to launch a global program that will look to reduce the gender gap in the technological sector, especially artificial intelligence. The Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence announced the new initiative named ‘Elevate’, in association with Google Cloud, during the 2nd Global AI Summit in Riyadh on Sept. 15.

This is according to a study by leading global management consultancy firm Kearney that looks at several factors affecting women in the workplace, including employer support of career ambitions, adoption of hybrid working, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion imperatives set by their organisations.

The Kearney Diversity, Equity and Inclusion survey reveals and 8 in 10 women feel they get the support they need from their employers to reach their career aspirations. Over half (51%) of female employees in the Kingdom see themselves changing sectors or careers in the next 10 years, and 36% indicate that they would like to hold a leadership position. 60% would like their employers to provide them with training in emerging skills and trends like ESG and data analytics to help them grow and support their career ambitions. Almost half (48%) would like employers to provide regular training to upskill in their current career choice.

    Authorities in Saudi Arabia have launched an investigation into a video that showed a group of men beating women with belts and dragging them by their hair at a residential facility. The footage which began circulating on Wednesday shows a group of men, some of whom appear to be in uniform, chasing women into the courtyard of the facility in the southwestern Asir region of the country.

  • Saudi Arabia opens probe over security forces filmed beating women

    The governor of Asir region has assembled a committee to look into the beatings apparently captured in the online footage and “refer the case to the competent authorities,” the Saudi Press Agency reported. The circumstances surrounding the incident and when it took place were not immediately clear.

    According to a report issued by the General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (Monsha'at), the percentage of enterprises owned by women reached 45 percent, of the total owners of start-ups, until the first half of 2022, which is double the percentage achieved in 2017.
