The Department of Energy plans to announce Tuesday that scientists have been able for the first time to produce a fusion reaction that creates a net energy gain — a major milestone in the decades-long, multibillion-dollar quest to develop a technology that provides unlimited, cheap, clean power. The aim of fusion research is to replicate the nuclear reaction through which energy is created on the sun. It is a “holy grail” of carbon-free power that scientists have been chasing since the 1950s. It is still at least a decade — maybe decades — away from commercial use, but the latest development is likely to be touted by the Biden administration as an affirmation of a massive investment by the government over the years.

Aramco Gulf Operations, Kuwait’s KGOC agree to develop Durra gas field, Saudi news agency reports
Saudi Aramco Gulf Operations Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Sunday with Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) to develop the joint Durra gas field, Saudi state news agency (SPA) reported. Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and Kuwaiti Oil Minister Badr Hamed Al Mulla attended a signing ceremony in Kuwait City, according to SPA. The development aims at producing 1 billion cubic feet of gas and 84,000 barrels of liquefied gas per day, according to the Kuwaiti state news agency.

Majority of visitors to Saudi Arabia were Kuwaitis
The statistics show that the majority of visitors to the Kingdom during the 2021 were Kuwaitis, and put the figure at 623,000. It also showed that the total number of tourists in the Kingdom for the year 2021 was 67 million, and Makkah Al-Mukarramah topped the list with more than 14 million, followed by Riyadh with more than 10 million. The main reason listed by the communication center was entertainment with a rate of 47.2%.

Video: Heavy rains, floods cause schools to close across Saudi Arabia
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) in Saudi Arabia has alerted several regions of rainfall ranging from medium to heavy, starting Sunday evening and continuing until Thursday in the Makkah region, including Jeddah, Rabigh, Taif, Jamum, Al Kamil, Khulais, Al Laith, Al Qunfudhah, Al Ardiyat, Adham, Maysan. In view of the unstable weather forecast, schools in the region will remain closed and in-person classes are suspended for Monday. According to Saudi media, the educational administration in Makkah Al Mukarramah region decided to suspend classes on Monday.
