US building ‘air and maritime defense’ system in Mideast to deter ‘imminent threats’
Brett McGurk, the National Security Council coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, told the annual Manama Dialogue conference in Bahrain that his country is focused on deterring “imminent threats” in the strategic energy-rich and conflict-ridden region. “The United States is now actively building and enabling an integrated air and maritime defense architecture in this region,” said McGurk, the top White House official on the Middle East.

Dubai airport chief says passengers top pre-pandemic level
Dubai International Airport passenger numbers surpassed pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels in the third quarter of 2022, the airport’s chief executive said, causing the airport to revise its annual forecast by another 1 million passengers. Paul Griffiths, who oversees the world’s busiest airport, told The Associated Press the annual forecast at Dubai International, or DXB, is more than 64 million. The airport saw 18.5 million passengers in the third quarter of this year, up from 17.8 million during the first quarter of 2020 — prior to and at the dawn of the pandemic.

‘Traitors’ denounced after Iran’s World Cup loss to England
Divisions among Iranians leading up to the FIFA World Cup have come to the fore following Iran's 6-2 loss to England. Supporters of the anti-government protests in Iran have for weeks charged that the national team does not represent the country but rather the ruling establishment. As a result, some Iranians have been celebrating the loss. Saudi Arabia Remains China’s Top Oil Supplier
Saudi shipments rose 12 percent from a year earlier to 7.93 million tons, or 1.87 million bpd, versus September's 1.83 million bpd. China’s oil imports from Russia jumped 16 percent in October from the same month last year to just behind top supplier Saudi Arabia, as state-run firms stocked up before a European embargo over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine kicked in.

The Curious Case Of Bahrain’s Disappearing Voters
Figures from the 2020 census – the most recent in the country – certainly suggest the number of voters should be far higher. The country’s total population that year was 1.5 million, of which 712,362 were Bahrainis. The number of local citizens aged 20 years or older (the threshold for voting) that year was 431,352. The population has probably grown a little since then, but even if it had not changed there should have been around 86,000 more people on the voter roll this year.
