The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of C-17 aircraft sustainment and related equipment to the United Arab Emirates for an estimated cost of $980.4 million, the Pentagon said on Tuesday. Despite approval by the State Department, the notification does not indicate that a contract has been signed or that negotiations have concluded.

SAMI signs deals with ST Engineering and Airbus Helicopters during Farnborough Airshow
Saudi Arabian Military Industries, also known as SAMI, signed a number of agreements with Singapore’s ST Engineering at the Farnborough International Airshow held in the UK. A wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, SAMI said in a statement that the agreement will support the firm in producing “cutting-edge defense systems”, as well as technical support and training.

BAE Systems, Embraer team up to pursue Saudi Arabia tactical airlift contract
BAE Systems, the largest defense contractor in Europe, is considering a move into the military air transport business via a strategic partnership with Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer. The companies opened the second day of the Farnborough air show in England July 19 by announcing they had signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue a potential deal with Saudi Arabia for the Embraer’s C-390 tactical airlift twin jet.

28 random neighborhoods in Jeddah razed; 4 remaining
The Jeddah Mayoralty announced on Monday that 28 slums and random neighborhoods have so far been razed as part of the Jeddah redevelopment plan. “Out of the total 32 neighborhoods, four are remaining and they will be removed within the scheduled timeline,” said Muhammad Al-Baqmi, spokesman of the mayoralty. Speaking to Al-Ekhbariya channel, Al-Baqmi said that notices will be served to the remaining neighborhoods as per the following schedule: Al-Montazahat neighborhood - July 23; Quwaizah, Al-Adl and Al-Fadl neighborhood - August, and Umm Al-Salam and Kilo 14 neighborhoods -September.
