  • Man tests positive for MERS in Abu Dhabi near Oman border – WHO

    A 28-year-old man has tested positive for the potentially fatal Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in a city in Abu Dhabi on the border with Oman, the World Health Organization said on Monday. The man in the city of Al Ain was admitted to hospital last month, the WHO said in a statement. Health officials had checked 108 people that he was in contact with, but no secondary infections had turned up so far, it added. The WHO said there were no signs the man had come into contact with dromedary camels, which spread the disease that is separate from COVID-19. It gave no more details on his current condition.

    Cisco’s latest Broadband Survey has revealed that internet users in Saudi Arabia are conscious of cyber risks, with only 3% of respondents not taking any measure to protect the security of their home connection. The survey of more than 21,000 people in 12 countries, including 2,000 respondents from KSA, looked at how consumers use their broadband connectivity. In Saudi Arabia, 91% of total survey respondents ranked broadband as critical national infrastructure; while 68% of respondents rely on their home Internet to work from home or run a business.

    According to a press release from Aramco, the project aims to pave the way for the creation of a domestic value chain for the advanced recycling of plastics to circular polymers in Saudi Arabia.     Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with France's TotalEnergies, has succeeded in converting the waste plastic oil into circular polymers certified by ISCC Plus, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Monday. This is also the first ISCC Plus certified success in the Middle East and North Africa region. The oil was first processed in a refinery jointly owned by Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) and TotalEnergies in the eastern coastal city of Jubail and then used as a feedstock by a Saudi petrochemical complex to produce circular polymers.
