Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has listed a $1.5bn sukuk on Nasdaq Dubai and will use the capital raised to support Covid-19 relief initiatives including funding medical, social and business projects among the bank’s 57 member countries. The sukuk is the second to be issued under IsDB’s Sustainable Finance Framework, following its debut green sukuk last year, and the first ever AAA-rated sustainability sukuk in addition to being the first Covid-19 related sukuk in the global capital markets, Nasdaq Dubai said in a statement on its website.

UAE Emirate of Sharjah Hires Banks for $1 Billion Sukuk Sale
The tiny emirate of Sharjah hired banks to raise as much as $1 billion from international debt markets, joining wealthier Gulf states to shore up its finances against the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. The third-biggest sheikhdom in the United Arab Emirates mandated HSBC Holdings Plc, Mashreqbank PSC, Sharjah Islamic Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank PJSC among others for the deal, people with knowledge of the matter said.

Saudi Arabia raises $1.48 bln in local sukuk
Saudi Arabia has raised 5.55 billion riyals in sukuk, or Islamic bonds, the Finance Ministry said in a statement on Thursday. The first tranche of the sukuk issue has a size of 1.3 billion riyals, and a total tranche size of 2.523 billion riyals, maturing in 2027, the ministry said.

The US insists it has offered to provide Iran with practical help through the World Health Organization, but the Iranians have rejected any help if it does not involve lifting US sanctions. A World Health Organization official said he believed the Iranian health ministry figures underestimated the true numbers by a fifth – which would mean more than 5,600 people have died.
