The Grand Bargain’s empty promise in Jordan
Six and a half years ago, 30 international governments and organizations gathered in Istanbul with an ambitious goal to revolutionize the humanitarian and development industries. Their negotiations yielded the Grand Bargain, an agreement among the largest international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) to allocate 25% of their humanitarian funding to small NGOs around the world. Nonprofits like CARE, Mercy Corps, and the Norwegian Refugee Council all joined, committing to bankroll local NGO budgets by reducing their own. And local NGOs, for their part, promised to use their knowledge and networks to improve humanitarian response.

Iranian Minister Says Spoke to Saudi Counterpart at Jordan Conference
Iran's foreign minister said on Wednesday he spoke with his Saudi counterpart on the sidelines of a conference in Jordan the previous day, the highest-level encounter reported between officials from the rival states since they cut ties in 2016. The Middle East's leading Shi'ite and Sunni Muslim powers, Saudi Arabia and Iran have been on opposing sides of conflicts across the region including in Syria and Yemen. Iraq has hosted five meetings between Saudi and Iranian officials since last year in a bid to ease tensions, the last of which was in April.

Mideast foes among attendees at France-backed conference in Jordan
Middle East adversaries Saudi Arabia and Iran are among the countries attending a conference in Jordan on Tuesday organised by France and Iraq which aims to provide a forum for discussing the region’s problems.
French President Emmanuel Macron is attending the conference as a follow up to a previous gathering convened in Baghdad in August 2021 that was aimed at showing support for Iraq.
“The idea is to see the path we can take to try to bring the sides’ perspectives closer,” said a French presidency official, referring to regional countries. “The idea of the Baghdad format is really to gather the main regional actors to exchange views and see how to move forward politically.”
