  • Are Egypt and Iran ready to start a new chapter?

    Representatives from Egypt and Iran have been meeting in Iraq since March with the mediation of Baghdad, according to Iraqi sources. The talks covered tensions over Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria. The possibility of a meeting between the president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, was also discussed.     The leading global banking group, Standard Chartered, and the region’s leading full-fledged investment firm, Falak Investment Hub, announced the successful completion of the “Standard Chartered Women in Tech” programme by selecting eight female-led startups through an independent panel of judges. The entrepreneurs, who underwent an 8-week incubator programme, showcased innovative ideas in various sectors, including fintech, health tech, property tech, and edutainment.

  • China seeks stronger economic ties with Saudi Arabia beyond crude oil as Middle East seeks ‘ideal partner’

    “A secure supply of oil is China’s most critical interest,” said Oliver John, a non-resident scholar at the Washington-based Middle East Institute. “From Aramco’s perspective, China is a critical and growing market … taking over a quarter of Saudi crude exports.” Saudi Arabia was China’s largest crude oil supplier last year, with shipments of 87.5 million metric tonnes (641 million barrels), or 17.2 per cent of national crude imports, customs data showed.

    Neom, the burgeoning production hub in northwestern Saudi Arabia, and Telfaz11, a studio specializing in content from the Middle East that was behind this year’s Saudi Oscar submission Raven Song, have struck a partnership for the creation of up to nine TV and film projects over the next three years. “The collaboration between Neom and Telfaz11 will accelerate the growth of Neom’s media industries ecosystem, ensuring a rich pipeline of productions, including two feature films and one series currently in development under the new arrangement,” the partners said Thursday.

  • Swedish firm to build 2,174 apartments for Saudi’s Neom

    Modular housebuilder Scandinavian Industrialised Building System (SIBS) has won a contract to assemble 35 apartment blocks at Saudi Arabia’s huge new economic zone, Neom. The Stockholm company was awarded an engineered-equipment supply contract for 2,174 homes for people working on the planning, engineering, and construction of the 26,500-sq-km zone.
