U.S. adults are more likely now than at any prior point to say that Americans have permanently changed the way they live. The 64% saying this is up slightly from 58% at the 10th anniversary, and from percentages near 50% in the first few years after 9/11. Asked about the effect on their own lives, 28% say they have permanently changed the way they live. This is unchanged from a decade ago, but slightly higher than Gallup measured between 2002 and 2006.

Hundreds of U.S. citizens, Afghan commandos successfully evacuated through secret CIA base
The effort was coordinated with U.S. diplomats and staff who were relocated from the embassy to Hamid Karzai International Airport after the Taliban took control of Kabul. The diplomats had been communicating directly with American citizens who were trying to leave Afghanistan but feared for their safety — especially after the embassy publicly urged Americans not to travel to the airport last week amid threats of an attack from the ISIS-K terror group.

Perspective: The Debate Over the U.S. Military Role in the Gulf
The U.S. role in the Middle East has evolved since the establishment of major bases such as the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain and forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command at Al Udeid air base in Qatar. U.S. Conducts Airstrike on ISIS-K Planner in Afghanistan
U.S. forces have battled elements of ISIS-K for years. In 2017, the U.S. dropped “the mother of all bombs,” or MOAB, on an ISIS-K cave in Nangahar Province, to the east of Kabul along the Pakistan border. Today, the terrorist group is believed to have between 1,500 and 2,200 fighters in Afghanistan, according to a June United Nations report. It is a sworn enemy of the Taliban and seeks not only to target U.S. forces but also to disrupt the Taliban’s assumed takeover of governance of Afghanistan, according to national security analysts.
