Saudi Arabia Welcomes Completion of Transfer of Oil Cargo from Yemen’s Safer Tanker
Saudi Arabia was one of the top donors, with the funds being provided through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. The Ministry also hailed the support from the Arab coalition that facilitated the transfer process. The transfer of more than a million barrels of oil from the aging tanker moored off the coast of Hodeidah was completed on Friday, avoiding an environmental disaster. An international team began siphoning the oil from the vessel on July 25. Almost all the oil is now aboard a replacement tanker called MOST Yemen.

Saudi Arabia to Give Yemen $1.2 Billion Support to Back Budget
Saudi Arabia will provide a new $1.2 billion financial support package to Yemen, the latest aid provided by the kingdom to its war-torn neighbor as it looks to move a long-standing truce into a formal peace agreement. The deal, announced Tuesday by the Saudi government, comes as Yemen lies on the verge of financial collapse due to last year’s block on oil exports, after the Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked terminals and threatened to carry out more assaults. They are demanding that salaries of government employees in the areas under their control should be issued from oil revenues.

Saudi Arabia to grant Yemen $1.2 bln in economic aid – Saudi source
Saudi Arabia is giving Yemen's presidential council $1.2 billion to help the country's struggling economy, a Saudi source told Reuters on Tuesday. Fighting with the Iran-aligned Houthis in north Yemen has largely stopped over the last year but the Saudi-backed government, based in Aden, has grappled with a weak currency and high prices. The situation has particularly worsened in Aden and south Yemen since several Houthi drone attacks targeted oil tankers in southern oil terminals, stopping the government exporting crude oil from there.

Oil from “FSO Safer” supertanker decaying off Yemen’s coast finally being pumped onto another ship
An international team began siphoning oil out of a decrepit oil tanker off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday, the United Nations chief said, a crucial step in a complex salvage operation aiming to prevent a potential environmental disaster. For years, many organizations have warned that the neglected vessel, known as FSO Safer, may cause a major oil spill or even explode. "The ship-to-ship transfer of oil which has started today is the critical next step in avoiding an environmental and humanitarian catastrophe on a colossal scale," Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement.

Yemen concerned as Houthis fire missiles at Marib city
The Iran-backed Houthis fired two ballistic missiles at Yemen’s central city of Marib on Tuesday, as they mobilized a large number of fighters and military equipment outside the city, local government officials said. Rashad Al-Mekhlafi, a military official with Yemen’s Armed Forces Guidance Department, told Arab News by telephone that two missiles landed between Tadaween and Al-Shabwani, north of Marib, in close proximity to a military base and a refugee camp for internally displaced people. “The missiles exploded in an open area in Marib without causing any injuries,” Al-Mekhlafi said.

Yemen’s Year-Long Truce Creates Opportunities for Durable Peace
In April 2022, the United Nations brokered a nationwide truce in Yemen. The most substantial pause in fighting since the war began in 2014, the truce led to a substantial reduction in violence and casualties. The terms of the truce, which include a halt in fighting between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, have mostly held even though its terms formally expired in October 2022.

Yemen’s Houthi authorities ban Swedish imports over Koran burning
Yemen's Houthi movement, which controls the country's north, has banned Swedish imports in protest against the burning of the Koran in Stockholm, the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said. "Yemen is the first Islamic country to ban imports of Swedish goods after its violations and desecration of Muslims' holiest," Al Masirah quoted the Houthi trade minister as saying. The minister described Swedish imports as "limited" but said the decision has a symbolic value and that the ban was the least the Houthis could do. He also called on fellow Islamic countries to follow suit.

Yemen: Saudi Arabia preparing to exit costly war?
The fractured political landscape in Yemen, long under the influence of regional powers, could soon become even more complicated. According to the Yemen Press Agency, the first Saudi-backed administrative council opened in the region of Hadramawt in June, and the second such council is planned for later this month in the port city of Aden. Once in place, these Saudi-backed bodies are set to foster the idea of a united Yemen — in stark contrast to the United Arab Emirates-backed Southern Transitional Council and its quest for secession from the rest of the country.
