    Further talks will be needed in order to resume Iraq's northern oil exports, two officials told Reuters today following a meeting between a Turkish energy technical delegation and Iraqi oil officials in Baghdad on Monday. "We are discussing all technical aspects regarding the restarting of oil exports. A decision to resume flows will not happen today and more meetings are expected," an oil official familiar with the meeting said on condition of anonymity. Turkey halted Iraq's 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) of northern exports through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline on March 25 after an arbitration ruling by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

  • Yemen’s Houthis accuse Saudi border guards of wounding 3 citizens

    Three Yemenis were wounded at the border "as a result of a Saudi artillery shelling" in the past day, the Houthi group in Yemen said on Sunday. According to the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, the three Yemeni citizens were wounded in the border district of Shada in the northwestern province of Saada and were taken to the hospital. There was no immediate response from the Saudi Arabian government. Saada is a stronghold of the Houthi group, which has been at war with the Saudi-led coalition since 2015.

  • Government-owned SALIC buys 42.4 percent stake in Saudi Arabia’s NAQUA

    The government-operated Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) has purchased a 42.4 percent stake in NAQUA, Saudi Arabia’s largest aquaculture firm. Al-Lith, Saudia Arabia-headquartered NAQUA operates 80 nurseries, 77 super-intensive ponds, and 547 open inland ponds spread over 4,485 hectares, with an annual production capacity of 90,000 metric tons (MT) of shrimp, according to its website. It also operates an aquafeed mill and 20 net-pens farming 15,000 MT of barramundi annually, and a sea cucumber broodstock unit, hatchery, grow-out facilities, and processing plant.

  • Yemenis embark on first direct flight to Saudi Arabia since 2016

    The first direct flight between Yemen and Saudi Arabia in nearly seven years has taken more than 270 Yemenis from rebel-held Sanaa to Jeddah, signalling easing tensions between the two countries. The flight by Yemenia – also known as Yemen Airways – took place Saturday evening and carried Yemeni Muslims embarking on the annual Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj in the Saudi city of Mecca.

    Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), the chair of the Permanent Subcommittee of Investigations (PSI), noted on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday that congressional hearings discussing the PGA Tour’s deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) could happen “within weeks.” “The Saudis have been very explicit that they have a strategic objective here,” Blumenthal said Sunday, per Golf Digest. “They have been engaged in numerous malign activities antithetical to American interests and values, killing [Washington Post reporter] Jamal Khashoggi, as well as other journalists, torturing and imprisoning dissidents and critics and supporting anti-democratic activities, even terrorist activities, like 9/11, as well as the internal war in Yemen.”
