Jadwa Investment’s recently released May inflation report for Saudi Arabia found a year-on-year decrease in inflation to 5.1 percent, the lowest since August 2011. Jadwa noted that the decline “was due to a fall in inflation for ‘other expenses and services,’ which stems from lower gold prices.”

A deal to open up Saudi airspace to all flights operating into and out of Tel Aviv is being discussed ahead of US President Joe Biden’s trip to the Middle East, according to people familiar with the matter. Dubai’s Emirates Airline, Bahrain’s Gulf Air and Israeli airlines including flag carrier El Al are currently permitted to use Saudi airspace for Dubai-Tel Aviv and Manama-Tel Aviv routes, but Israel is restricted from using Saudi airspace for any other commercial flights.

Gulf States Hedge Against Global Energy Transition, Now With Hydrogen
In July 2020, Saudi Arabia announced a $5 billion green hydrogen plant, to be powered by renewables and built in the futuristic city of Neom. Jointly owned by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and Air Products, the plant is expected to produce 650 tons of hydrogen by 2025 for exportation. Further, in January, the Ministry of Energy signed eight memorandums of understanding with local authorities to implement pilot projects for sustainable aviation fuel and vehicles and buses that run on hydrogen fuel cells.

When will Egypt’s brain drain end?
A report issued by the Egyptian Medical Syndicate has revealed that 11,586 Egyptian doctors resigned from their positions in government hospitals during the past three years in what it described as an "unprecedented brain drain." The London-based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper also reported recently a comment by Egyptian MP Hazem El-Gendy which revealed that half of Egypt's doctors – 110,000 out of more than 212,000 — had fled the country during the same period.
