Reliance Industries Ltd.’s plan to sell a stake in its oil-to-chemicals business to Saudi Aramco has been delayed, pushing down the Indian conglomerate’s shares on the day its chairman announced a $4.5 billion transaction with Google. “Due to unforeseen circumstances in the energy market and the Covid-19 situation, the deal has not progressed as per the original timeline,” Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani told shareholders on Wednesday. “Nevertheless, we at Reliance value our over two-decade-long relationship with Saudi Aramco and are committed to a long-term partnership.”

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival Director Steps Down
Mahmoud Sabbagh, the director of Saudi Arabai’s Red Sea Film Festival, is resigning from his role after being unable to take the reins at the event’s inaugural edition after it was cancelled due to the pandemic. No reason was given for Sabbagh’s decision to step down. The festival posted a statement on its social media channels thanking the exec for his work and noting he will now return to working in the Saudi film industry as a filmmaker. His previous credits include Barakah Meets Barakah, which debuted at the 2016 Berlinale, and 2018 drama Amra And The Second Marriage.

Saudi Aramco says reorganising downstream business to support growth
State energy giant Saudi Aramco said on Tuesday that it will be reorganising its downstream business to support its global growth strategy, aiming to complete it by the end of this year. Saudi Aramco’s acquisition of petrochemical maker SABIC will accelerate the company’s downstream strategy and transform it into a global petrochemical player, an official of the state oil giant told al-Arabiya TV. “We expect long-term demand for petrochemicals to grow, with the sector expected to record the fastest growth in oil demand to 2040,” said Abdulaziz al-Gudaimi, a senior vice president at Aramco.
