    The Saudi government is exerting efforts to replace fuel with gas and renewable energy sources in electricity production. The Saudi Power Procurement Company (Principal Buyer) recently signed two power purchase agreements with a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts.     A consortium of Masdar, EDF Renewables and Nesma Holding has won a bid for the construction of a 1.1GW solar plant in Saudi Arabia.

    It placed the lowest bid of $16.84 per megawatt-hour to secure the Al Henakiyah solar project from the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC). The consortium of Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, France’s EDF Renewables and Saudi conglomerate Nesma has entered a power purchase agreement with SPPC for a period of 25 years.

    Red Sea Global (RSG) has signed a 25-year concession agreement with French utility EDF and UAE green energy supplier Masdar on a solar-powered water treatment system for the 3,800-sq-km Amaala luxury tourist project in northwest Saudi Arabia.
