  • Saudi Arabia, Israel firms sign joint energy venture to advance Kingdom’s solar energy transition

    Firms in Israel and Saudi Arabia have signed a joint venture agreement to advance the Gulf Kingdom's transition to solar energy, in a rare public deal between the two countries that do not have official diplomatic relations. According to Bloomberg, SolarEdge Technologies, Inc – a major Israeli solar energy firm – formed a joint venture with Ajlan & Bros Holding, a conglomerate in Saudi Arabia's private sector. The agreement will be established in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to "support the deployment of smart renewable energy solutions in Saudi Arabia", SolarEdge stated, with the aim of helping the Kingdom achieve its target to reduce dependence on oil by 2030.

  • French engineer prepares ground for 20GW of solar in Saudi’s Neom

    Saudi Arabia has hired Paris-based engineering group Assystem to conduct pre-development studies for seven photovoltaic parks in the Tabuk and Duba regions to power the kingdom’s Neom economic development zone. In all, the solar parks stretch over 420 sq km, potentially providing more than 20GW of generating capacity, Assystem said. The company will do site assessment studies, preliminary design, master planning, environmental and social impact assessments, and permitting studies.

  • Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power to build two solar plants in Uzbekistan

    Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power (2082.SE) will build two solar plants in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of 1.4 gigawatts and three power storage systems with a combined capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, Uzbekistan's Energy Ministry said on Saturday. The two parties have signed investment agreements on the project worth $2.5 billion and deals under which Uzbekistan will buy power from the facilities, the ministry said in a statement. Under the deal, ACWA will construct a 400 megawatt plant and a storage facility with the same capacity in Tashkent province, a 1 gigawatt plant and a 400 megawatt storage system in the Samarkand region, and 400 megawatts of storage in Bukhara province.

    The 2,060 megawatt solar facility will be built in Al-Shuaibah, in the Makkah province, and is expected to become operational by the fourth quarter of 2025. Badeel, a subsidiary of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), and ACWA Power will each hold a 50 per cent equity stake in the project.

  • Saudi Arabia to build giant solar power plant

    The Saudi energy company ACWA Power and the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund will develop and build a 2,060 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant in western Saudi Arabia. ACWA Power and the sovereign wealth fund each own a 50% stake in the project. The plant is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025, ACWA Power said in a press release.

  • Saudi Arabia Signs Agreement to Build Field of Hybrid Solar Energy

    King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and SAFEER - a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Altaaqa Alternative Solutions – announced an agreement to provide a major hybrid solar power farm project for KAEC. The strategic plan seeks to develop an estimated 25,000 solar panels (ground-mounted motorized system) producing a capacity of 12.5-megawatt peak (MWp) for the city. The hybrid solar power farm is expected to reduce KAEC’s carbon footprint of nearly 20,380 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year as well as decrease diesel consumption by approximately 30%.

  • Israel’s SolarEdge Emerges With Saudi Deal After Biden Trip

    SolarEdge Technologies, one of the biggest Israeli-American companies trading on Wall Street, became an early beneficiary of President Joe Biden’s Middle East trip when it signed an agreement with Saudi investment company Ajlan & Bros., The Circuit has learned. SolarEdge, which is based in Herzliya, Israel, and has a North American headquarters in Milpitas, Calif., was among 13 companies from the U.S. that emerged with new agreements after Biden’s July 15-16 visit to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Ministry of Investment said in a statement. The ministry did not refer to SolarEdge’s Israeli roots.

    Saudia Dairy and Foodstuff Co. (SADAFCO) plans to implement a solar photovoltaic (PV) power system at its Jeddah Central Warehouse (JCW) to lower its carbon impact, the company said in its 2021 sustainability report. The Saudi stock exchange-listed firm has initiated steps to identify and use renewable power sources at its factories and warehouses since it is well placed to utilize solar power in its operations.
