8 Reportedly Injured in Houthi Terrorist Drone Attack at Abha International Airport

At least eight people were wounded on Monday in Houthi terrorist drone strikes on Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport, Reuters reports, citing local sources and news outlets.

The terrorist attack also also damaged a civilian airplane, Saudi state TV reported.

According to Reuters, the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthi group in Yemen said earlier that it intercepted a Houthi drone that was targeting Abha International Airport.

Shrapnel was scattered in the vicinity of the airport, the coalition said.

Abha airport is in the capital of Asir Province in Saudi Arabia. The airport has services to several domestic airports and a handful of international destinations in the region.

Abha has previously been the target of Houthi terrorist attacks using drones or missiles fired from Yemen, supplied by Iran.

In February, Houthi drones attacked the airport, setting fire to a civilian aircraft. The group has attempted attacks on the airport on several other occasions this year alone.

The first terrorist attack by the Houthis on the airport occurred in 2019, injuring 26 people. Another two attacks in that year injured 47 people and killed one person, a Syrian national.
