Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the release and "reiterates that kidnapping is an inhumane and unjustifiable crime, and calls for the perpetrators to be held accountable," a U.N. spokesperson said.

  • Saudi baklava drug bust: Customs seize over 2.2mn captagon pills in Jeddah shipment

    The Saudi Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has reported thwarting an attempt to smuggle over 2.2 million captagon pills hidden in a consignment of baklava that entered the country through Jeddah Islamic Port. ZATCA has coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) to arrest the two individuals who were supposed to receive the shipment, SPA reported, quoted officials in the customs authority. Captagon pills are a highly addictive amphetamine-type drug, which is reportedly produced mainly in Syria and widely smuggled across West Asia.

    Saudi Arabia’s Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has confiscated 151,139 Captagon pills found hidden in cars that arrived in the Kingdom through the Hadithah Port, near the border with Jordan. Authorities had found 43,000 pills in a vehicle, 45,349 pills hidden inside the air compressor tank of another car, and 62,790 pills in the radiator of a third vehicle, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
