  • Arab Youth Survey 2023: Six in 10 support US ‘disengagement’ from region

    A third of young Arabs believe the US wields the most influence in the region, with a majority wanting this to change. The US was viewed as the country holding the most sway in the Arab world (33 per cent), ahead of the UAE (11 per cent), Saudi Arabia and Israel (both 10 per cent) and Russia (8 per cent), by respondents to the Arab Youth Survey 2023. Sixty-one per cent of those polled said they “strongly or somewhat support” US disengagement from Middle Eastern affairs. "I highlighted the Kingdom’s investment of $7.8 billion in the Expo and the opportunities and enriched experience available to international companies," Saudi investment minister Khalid al-Falih said, as Riyadh made its bid for hosting the coming issue of Expo 2030.

  • Saudi Agricultural Development Fund approves $400m to improve farm productivity

    Farmers in Saudi Arabia attained SR1.5 billion ($400 million) worth of funding after the Kingdom’s Agricultural Development Fund signed off a tranche of development loans. According to a statement made on Tuesday, the fund approved the payouts for small farmers involved in greenhouse vegetable production, poultry breeding, and fish and shrimp farming. The statement added that refrigeration warehouses, dates manufacturing and marketing centers also received funding.

  • Turkey Erdogan Government Raises Minimum Wage by 34% in Second Hike in a Year

    Turkey raised its minimum wage for a second time this year, potentially adding to inflationary pressures making the job of the country’s new economic team harder. The monthly net minimum wage will rise by 34% to 11,402 liras ($483), Labor Minister Vedat Isikhan said in televised comments. That’s an increase of 107% from the end of last year.

  • Private Sector Investment in Saudi Economy Jumps 104%

    Non-governmental private sector investments in Saudi Arabia’s GDP for the past year increased 22 percent to reach $242 billion. Compared to 2016, investments witnessed a considerable jump, reaching 104 percent, despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on economic activities worldwide. The Saudi government is seeking to empower the private sector and raise its contribution to the gross domestic product from 40 to 65 percent as a target for 2030. Saudi Arabia inaugurated the Private Sector Partnership Reinforcement Program (Shareek) to strengthen government and private sector collaboration, which he said would enable private investment of $1.33 trillion until 2030.
