  • Arab Youth Survey 2023: Six in 10 support US ‘disengagement’ from region

    A third of young Arabs believe the US wields the most influence in the region, with a majority wanting this to change. The US was viewed as the country holding the most sway in the Arab world (33 per cent), ahead of the UAE (11 per cent), Saudi Arabia and Israel (both 10 per cent) and Russia (8 per cent), by respondents to the Arab Youth Survey 2023. Sixty-one per cent of those polled said they “strongly or somewhat support” US disengagement from Middle Eastern affairs. However, 66 per cent also said they expected the US to be a stronger ally than Russia over the next five years, while 62 per cent said the US would be a stronger ally than China.

Similarly, a group of Saudis also won 13 science and technology awards at ITEX in Malaysia. Saudis were once content with monotony in their professional lives, but not anymore. This generation of Saudis determinedly strive for the best, anything else is simply not good enough.

  • Asda’a BCW Arab Youth Survey: 89 per cent of Arab youth say they shop online

    With internet penetration between 98 per cent to 100 per cent in GCC countries, and well over 65 per cent in the Levant and North Africa, Arab youth are, unsurprisingly, struggling to disconnect from social media, with three-quarters of those polled (76 per cent) either strongly agreeing or somewhat agreeing that they find it difficult to disconnect. This rises to 83 per cent in the GCC.

    Now in its 14th year, the Asda’a BCW Arab Youth Survey is the largest study of its kind of MENA’s largest demographic, its 200 million plus youth. Asda’a BCW commissioned IDS Research & Consultancy to conduct face-to-face interviews with 3,400 Arab citizens aged 18 to 24 in their home nations from May 13 to June 16. Interviews with an equal sample of men and women took place in 50 cities across a total of 17 Arab states.

In 2020, 87 per cent of Saudi youth viewed the US as a 'strong ally' or 'somewhat of an ally', an increase in favourability over 2019 when 70 per cent of Saudi youth viewed the US as an ally. In 2018, 50 per cent of Saudi youth viewed the US as an ally.
