Leading Saudi broadcaster airs Israeli docuseries on Mossad operations
A prominent Saudi entertainment TV channel is airing an Israeli-produced docuseries about US and Mossad operations against Hezbollah. Israel’s public broadcaster Kan announced this week that the broadcasting rights of the “The Cassandra Prophecy” documentary series have been sold to the Saudi broadcasting network MBC, according to The Jerusalem Post. Middle East Eye has seen that the show was available to watch with Arabic or English subtitles on MBC’s online streaming platform Shahid.

Saudi TV network under fire as Iraqis clash over controversial new series
Iraqi Shiite cleric and politician Muqtada Al-Sadr has warned a Saudi-owned network against airing a series on Caliph Mu’awiya I (661-80), likely in anticipation of a glorification of his rule. Many Shiite Muslims denounce Mu’awiya and his Umayyad successors (661-750) as divisive, alleging that they acted against Caliph Ali bin Abi Talib (656-61) and other figures who Shiites revere. The series will likely also spark reactions for featuring the faces of the Prophet’s Companions, which both Shiite and Sunni religious authorities reject.

What Golf Saudi’s Aramco Team Series event in New York means for LPGA
There are six events on the Ladies European Tour schedule that are sponsored by Golf Saudi and the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The Aramco Team Series and it’s $1 million purses have no doubt added a significant amount of money to the LET schedule, where it’s tough to make a living. Only 29 players have made over 100,000 euros so far this season, and that’s without travel costs and other team/caddie expenses.

Zid raises $50 million Series B round led by IMPACT46
Saudi-based Retail enablement company, Zid has successfully raised $50 million (~188 million SAR) in a Series B funding led by IMPACT46 with participation from new investors: Aramco venture capital arm (Waed Ventures) and Endeavour Catalyst. Previous investors: Global Ventures, Elm Company, Arzan and MSA also participated. This is the third round of investment Zid has received since the business was founded in 2017, and follows a Series A investment round of $7 million in March 2021.

Netflix has previewed a selection of upcoming films and shows aimed at the Arab world and hailing from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Egypt, and Jordan. The global platform has been steadily making inroads into the Middle East and North Africa since 2015, in the face of fierce competition from local players such as MBC’s Shahid VIP and Starzplay.
