SUSTG is covering the events and meetings taking place in the run up to the G20 in November as part of our “Road to the G20” series of posts and featured items. This week, Saudi Arabia will host virtual meetings on Civil Society (C20), as well as meetings on tourism and a workshop on sustainable mobility.

The meetings are in the run-up to the main G20 event bringing together global leaders, which takes place in 47 days, on November 21 and 22, 2020.

The Civil Society 20 (C20) is one of the eight official Engagement Groups of the G20. It provides a platform of Civil Society Organizations around the world to bring forth a non-government and non-business voice. The C20 “povides a space through which global civil society organizations can contribute in a structured and sustained manner to the G20. Under the Saudi presidency of C20 in 2020, there are 11 main working groups that mirror the G20 working groups in the Sherpa and Finance Tracks. The C20 Engagement Group is structured around the 2019 C20 Guiding Principles,” according to the C20 website.

The C20 is broken down into working groups that include: anti-corruption, climate, energy and sustainability, digital economy, education, employment and social protection, gender, global health, infrastructure, international financial architecture, ‘local2global’, and trade and investment.
