Saudi Ambassador Reema Bandar Al-Saud Nominated to International Olympic Committee

Saudi Arabia’s Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud is among three women nominated and four total new individual members to the International Olympic Committee this week as part of an effort to increase women’s representation in sport.

Ambassador Reema said she was “thrilled” by the decision of the IOC’s Executive Board to include three women candidates among the five nominees.

“I am humbled by the IOC Election Committee’s nomination, and thrilled over their conscious decision to elect 3 women,” Ambassdor Reema said.

“Great progress has been made around the world in promoting greater access to sport for women and girls, and ensuring their equal participation in sports. I remain committed to these principles, and look forward to building on the IOC’s efforts in this respect,” the Ambassador said.

Princess Reema is one of four new individual members added, three of whom are women, per the Olympics committee. She joins Mrs Maria de la Caridad Colón Ruenes (Female, 1958, Cuba), Mrs. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović (Female, 1968, Croatia), Mr. Battushig Batbold (Male, 1986, Mongolia).
