Saudi Arabia, Arab League Blast Israel’s ‘Excessive Force’ in Gaza

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister on Tuesday condemned Israel’s attempts to evict Palestinians from their homes, as the Kingdom and the Arab League “angrily denounce” what they call the use of excessive force in Gaza.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, at an emergency session of the Arab League foreign ministerial council, said the illegal practices of Israeli forces, especially during Ramadan, represented a flagrant violation of international charters, according to Arab News.

Tensions continue to mount on the border of Israel and Gaza, after recent violent confrontations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem. So far, at least 43 people in Gaza, including 13 children, and two Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed as a result of fighting. Five Israelis have also been killed in the ongoing conflict, according to the AFP.

Israel’s army said Palestinian militants have launched more than 1,000 rockets since Monday. Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes on Hamas and other Islamist groups in the crowded costal enclave of Gaza, as fears of a full-scale war grow in the region.

Saudi Arabia will continue to defend the cause of the Palestinian people in regional and international forums, the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Saleh Hamad Al-Suhaibani, said, adding that the foremost of which is the UN Security Council.

The escalation in violence comes just 8 months after the so-called Abraham Accords, in which the UAE normalized relations with Israel. Both the UAE and Bahrain condemned Israel’s storming of the al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as its moves to evict Palestinians out of their homes in Sheikh Jarrah.
