Saudi Arabia Enacts Curfew as Kingdom Seeks to Best COVID-19

Saudi Arabia has enacted a curfew to stop the spread of COVID-19 within the Kingdom’s borders, prohibiting citizens and residents from being outside the home at night for three weeks starting Monday.

The curfew will be implemented in Saudi Arabia from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. for the next 21 days. Violators will be fined 10,000 riyals ($2,663) and could face jail time if they repeatedly break the law, the Kingdom’s Ministry of Interior announced on Monday.

Second-time violators will also be forced to pay double the amount of the initial fine, the ministry said.

Saudi Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali said Sunday that the Kingdom recorded 119 new cases of the coronavirus, raising the total number to 511.

We are starting to see more cases linked to interactions… We advise everyone to stay home,” he told a news conference, adding that more than 4,000 people are under quarantine, according to Asharq Alawsat.

Thirty-three percent of coronavirus infections in the Kingdom are a result of people coming into direct contact with previously infected individuals, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.
