Saudi Arabia’s Inaugural ‘Future Aviation Forum’ Begins May 9

Saudi Arabia is hosting the inaugural Future Aviation Forum next week, a new annual event that aims to seize the opportunity of a “pivotal moment for the global aviation sector,” a Saudi official said.

The new event also comes at a crucial moment for the local Saudi aviation sector, as the Kingdom eyes major airport expansions and renovations and the reported launch a new national airline to complement its existing national carriers, Saudia, Flynas and Flyadeal.

The forum hosted by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, also known as GACA, will feature more than 120 speakers, with over 2,000 attendees and representatives from various countries.

“The Future Aviation Forum will be a pivotal moment for the global aviation sector,”  said Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s minister of transport and logistics, according to a report in Arab News. “We will bring together the brightest minds from around the world to forge solutions for how the sector can recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, transform the passenger experience, and invest in innovations that will lower carbon emissions and reduce environmental impact.”

ICAO Council President Salvatore Schiacchitano echoed the importance of the timing of this event for the aviation sector.

“Global cooperation across the aviation sector is needed now more than ever. We must work together to build greater resilience in the face of future health crises, to rethink and modernize every step of the passenger journey, and to ensure aviation sustainability in the face of the climate emergency…I look forward to the coming together of the industry’s top leaders at the Aviation Future Conference in Riyadh, where we can collaborate to drive the ambition, innovation and policymaking necessary to ensure a promising future for the industry.”

The event will take place over three days in Riyadh. More details are available here at the event’s website.
