Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his son Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday congratulated U.S. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on winning the presidential election, the Saudi Press Agency said.

The two leaders of Saudi Arabia joined other global leaders in congratulating the president-elect and the vice-president elect via telephone after the election was called by all major news outlets.

The king praised the close historical ties between the countries and wished Americans “further progress and prosperity,” SPA said.

“King Salman praised the distinguished, historic and close relations between the two friendly countries and their people which everyone looks to strengthen and develop at all levels,” SPA added.

Other GCC leaders also reached out to Biden to congratulate him and Harris, who is the first woman to be elected as Vice President.
