Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power targets 120 gigawatts of power capacity in next 10 years
Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power is targeting about 120 gigawatts of power-generating capacity in the next 10 years with a presence in 20 countries, and it plans to raise more money through the issuance of a bond at the end of this year or early next year to fund its growth plans. The Riyadh-listed company is active in 13 countries with a power generation capacity of about 43 gigawatts, with 37 per cent of the total capacity being renewables. The company aims to take the total renewable capacity to 70 per cent in the next decade, with the rest consisting of the gas portfolio, according to its chief financial officer.

US installs record solar capacity as prices keep falling
In terms of large, utility-scale solar installs, the US added over 12.5 gigawatts of new capacity last year, bringing the total installed capacity to over 50 gigawatts. Texas led the way, with about a third of the total capacity added (3.9 GW) going online in the Lone Star State. Combined with residential and other distributed solar installations, solar alone accounted for 45 percent of the new generating capacity added to the grid last year.

Russia releases 10 foreigners captured in Ukraine after Saudi mediation
Russia released 10 prisoners of war captured in Ukraine on Wednesday after mediation by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The prisoners of war, who are citizens of Morocco, the US, the UK, Sweden and Croatia, were released as part of an exchange between Russia and Ukraine, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. “The relevant Saudi authorities received and transferred them from Russia to the kingdom and are facilitating procedures for their safe return to their respective countries,” the ministry said.

Saudi oil driller hires Goldman, HSBC, SNB Capital for local IPO
Arabian Drilling, a Saudi oilfield-services firm partly held by Schlumberger, hired Goldman Sachs, HSBC Holdings and SNB Capital to manage its initial public offering in Riyadh. The firm will sell 26.7 million shares, or a 30 per cent stake, according to a statement, adding to a queue of companies planning to IPO on the Middle East’s biggest stock market. The offer price will be determined following a book-building period from September 28 to October 5.

Saudi Oil Driller Hires Goldman, HSBC, SNB Capital for IPO
About a third of the IPO will be new shares, and the proceeds will be used to scale up onshore and offshore fleet and expand operations in the Gulf Cooperation Council region, it said. Arabian Drilling operates 45 rigs and had revenue of $586 million last year. It also has an order backlog of $2.2 billion.

As part of a regional partnership, Majid Al-Futtaim and Dreamscape VR entertainment company recently inaugurated the immersive VR attraction on the first floor of Riyadh Park Mall, next to VOX Cinemas. The opening comes three years after Dreamscape debuted in the Middle East at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.
